Librarian Job Vacancy at Zahira College 2023

The positions available at Zahira College are Librarian, Assistant Librarian - Tamil Section, and Assistant Librarian - Archives.

The responsibilities of a Librarian at Zahira College include enforcing library policies and procedures, developing operational and work plans, managing the college library, monitoring the lending process, and liaising with different sections and providing educational programs.

The candidate should have a proven track record of more than 5 years' experience in a college or institution library. They should be a graduate of a recognized university in Sri Lanka or overseas with supporting degrees or diplomas in Library Science. The ideal candidate should be proactive, computer literate, preferably trilingual, and have knowledge of recent advances in library management systems.

The responsibilities of an Assistant Librarian - Tamil Section include entering and updating students' records, checking in and checking out library books and resources, maintaining the library catalogue, sorting and returning items to designated storage areas, and managing the library resources and database.

The candidate should possess a Diploma in Library Science or be studying a professional qualification in library science. Strong communication skills in English and Tamil are required, and knowledge of Sinhala is an added advantage. Previous experience in a similar position for more than 3 years is preferred, and applicants must be under 35 years of age.

The responsibilities of an Assistant Librarian - Archives include organizing and arranging archival and manuscript material, performing preservation procedures, compiling materials in collections, labeling manuscripts, and performing clerical functions related to library activities.

The candidate should possess a Diploma in Library Science or be studying a professional qualification in library science, archival science, history, or a related field. Strong communication skills in English and Sinhala or Tamil are required, and being trilingual is an added advantage. Previous experience in a similar position for more than 3 years is preferred.
