Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Higher Diploma in Library and Information Studies
The Diploma in Communication & Media Studies is a one-year program conducted by the Department of Communication and Creative Arts at the University of Colombo. It is designed for individuals seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in the field of communication and media.
Applicants must have either G.C.E. A/L with 3 passes and one year of experience or equivalent qualifications (NVQ Level 04), or G.C.E. O/L with 6 passes or equivalent qualifications (department specifications may apply) and 3 years' experience in a relevant field. Completion of a Certificate Course in the relevant subject/field from a recognized institution, accepted by the Department, and 3 years' experience in a relevant field are also accepted.
The course duration is one year, and lectures will be held on Saturdays from 9.00 am to 1.30 pm.
The course fee is Rs. 60,000.00 for Sri Lankan citizens and USD 600 for foreigners.
The course is conducted in the Sinhala medium. However, if a reasonable number of applications are received, parallel courses in Tamil/English media may also be conducted.
Selection is based on an interview conducted by the Department of Communication and Creative Arts.
The application form can be obtained from the website of the Department of Communication and Creative Arts, University of Colombo, and Academic and Publications. Candidates need to submit the completed application form along with a bank receipt for the payment of Rs. 1000/- as the application fee.
The completed application form should be submitted to the Academic and Publications Branch, P.O. Box 1490, Colombo 03.
No, according to the By-Laws, students may not register for any other course as an internal and/or external student of the University of Colombo while pursuing this diploma.
The completed application form will be entertained up to 30.10.2023.
